Death Café

I’ve always been drawn to things I don’t understand, and death is one of those.

I welcome conversations about death and dying with anyone who is open to discussing their perception and/or personal relationship with death.

I currently facilitate these conversations in a virtual group-setting through Death Café, on the first Sunday of the month, from 5:00 to 6:00pm, Eastern Time*.

What is Death Café?

Death Café is a nonprofit “social franchise” created in London in 2011, inspired by Swiss sociologist Bernard Cretazz, who set up “Café Mortel” (French for Death Café) based on the Café Philosophique concept originated in France in the 1990s.

Death Café is not a physical space, but rather an event for people, often strangers, to gather and discuss death, while having tea and cake.

A Death Café is a discussion group with no agenda, objectives or themes (other than the topic of death), towards helping people make the most of their finite lives.

Death Café is:

  • An open, accessible, respectful and confidential space, where people can express their views safely.

  • A discussion group with no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action.

Death Café is not:

  • A grief or counseling support group.

  • A discussion group with an intentional agenda or outcome.
